MENTORSHIP SESSION

Mentorship tables are an opportunity for mentors to share knowledge and experience with attendees in an intimate setting. Multiple small tables will be set up, with a mentor at each one.
Attendees can join any of these tables to talk to the mentors in small groups of 10 - 15 people. All our mentors have chosen topics to be a jumping-off point for further discussion with attendees. We have allocated 45 minutes for the mentorship sessions. Please check the location of mentorship sessions on the right side of the list.

  • My mentorship for women in data science focuses on building resilience, embracing failure as a valuable learning opportunity, and maintaining self-confidence in the face of challenges or intimidation. I guide mentees to persevere with clarity and professionalism-staying grounded in facts, communicating bold visions strategically, and fostering ambition that inspires rather than alienates. Together, we cultivate the skills and mindset needed for lasting success in the field.

  • Starting a full-time career can feel like a race, but long-term success requires pacing, not rushing. In this session, we'll explore how to prevent burnout, navigate imposter syndrome, and adapt from phd or student life to professional life. We'll also talk about setting boundaries, detaching from work, and finding balance with family and personal well-being. It's about running your own race — sustainably.

  • I will share my personal observations and experience of transitioning between academic and industry worlds, both in a large corporation and a startup. I will share which mantras and mental patterns helped, and which were rather obstacles. We can talk about biases and expectation management, challenges of multi-national and interdisciplinary environments (or lack thereof) and managing (too) many commitments between work and home, while staying sane and maybe even serene.

  • A scientific career path often involves shifting focus to hypothesis-driven research, with a deeper commitment to foundational contributions, peer review, and long-term inquiry. Landing a university position typically requires evidence of research potential—such as publications, grants, or collaborations—as well as the ability to teach and support the academic mission. I’d be happy to discuss my (mostly) academic career path and those I’ve observed while serving on hiring and promotion commissions.
