Mary-Anne Hartley (Annie) is a medical doctor and Professor of AI, directing the Laboratory for Intelligent Global Health and Humanitarian Response Technologies (LiGHT), based at the Swiss Institute of Technology (EPFL) with affiliations at Harvard, Ashoka University in India, and C4IR Rwanda.
LiGHT focuses on the rigorous validation, governance, and equitable implementation of AI systems in high-stakes clinical and humanitarian settings. They lead large-scale evaluation platforms and clinical trials for medical AI and works closely with global partners to ensure AI systems are safe, context-adapted, and aligned with public health priorities.
